Lillian Swift Gaeser
Lillian “Lillie” Swift Gaeser was born in 1919 in New York City. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1970 and her Master of Science Degree in Reading Specialty in 1974 from Barry University. She taught reading as a substitute teacher. She was very athletic and an excellent tennis player. She was a member of the National Security Women’s Corps during World War II. Lillie would watch for enemy planes during the war and sold United States savings bonds.
Lillie loved Barry then and still does with a passion. “Barry had friendly and cooperative educators,” Lillie says. In return for the gratitude of Barry University, she established The Lillian Swift Gaeser Scholarship Fund in 2010. The fund is distributed via memorial awards as follows:
