Sister John Karen Frei

Sister John Karen Frei, O.P., Ph.D., formerly known as Karen Rosa Frei, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Botany from Douglas College in New Brunswick, N.J.; a Master of Science degree in Botany from Rutgers University; a Doctor of Philosophy degree in biology from the University of Miami; and a Master of Business Administration degree from Barry College (University). Sister Frei spent 45 years ministering at Barry.

She joined Barry College as a faculty member in 1964. After joining the Adrian Dominican Congregation, she returned to Barry College rejoining the Department of Biology as a faculty member. Since 1983, she held several positions at Barry University: Professor, Department Chairperson, Dean, Associate Vice President, Vice President, and Assistant to the Provost.

During her tenure at Barry University, she established the Sister John Karen Frei Endowed Scholarship to assist students who are committed to completing an undergraduate degree program in Biology at Barry University but are experiencing financial difficulties. She died on October 19, 2012.

Scholarships
