Sister Thomas Gertrude, O.P.

Sister Mary Catherine Brennan took the name Sister Thomas Gertrude, O.P., during reception of the habit on April 26, 1939. She was born in Chicago on February 4, 1917. She was awarded a Bachelor of Education degree with a major in English and minors in music and social studies in 1940 from Siena Heights College. In 1944, she received another degree from Siena Heights, this time a Bachelor of Music with a major in piano and minor in English. She was awarded a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in 1950.

In 1952, she joined the faculty at Barry College where she taught music and religion for four years. She then spent 12 years at Rosarian Academy in West Palm Beach. She took a sabbatical from teaching to study literature and scripture at The Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Her teaching life began again in 1982, when she taught at both Rosarian Academy and St. Ann School in West Palm Beach. In 1992, ill with cancer, she retired to Maria Health Care Center for needed care.
