Charles Heising Scholarship for Music Ministry

The Charles Heising Scholarship for Music Ministry was established as a merit-based scholarship to encourage and develop student leadership in music ministry within the Barry University Community. Recipients shall be known as Heising Scholars.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be registered as an undergraduate or graduate student for the current academic year at Barry University
  • Must have 3.25 or greater cumulative GPA
  • Be a Music Ministry volunteer, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Worship and Music Ministry

Preference given to individuals that meet the following criteria:

  • Pursuing a major or minor in the fine arts, theology or have completed or are currently enrolled in at least one undergraduate course in one of these areas: music theory, applied music (vocal or instrumental) or choral performance. Experience may be used as a substitute for course work.
  • Previous experience in Music Ministry, either at Barry or other religious institution, verified a pastor, choir director or another pastoral leader; familiar with the Roman Catholic liturgical tradition and worship practices or willingness to develop such familiarity and encourage peers to participate in Music Ministry and in workshop.
